Loved this design the moment I saw it... I used the template for a site of mine (http://www.actdg.com) and have gotten tons of compliments on the looks of the site - too bad I have to keep telling people thanks but I just grabbed a template ;)
With a little photoshop time I changed the color scheme entirely and the code was extremely easy to work with when I sliced everything up for php includes - the author Pat did a great job making this!

I was thinking, if you took the picture of plants from the middle and remove the image tag, would it be full width?

This is a very interesting design. I really like the image down the center. It divides it very cleanly. The rounded corners also give it an elegant look.

PS - where do you live where you have 6 months of winter? in southern Florida we get a month or two of, like, five degree cooler weather
